Time ~ What is That?

My watch battery died – about 3 days before the World Closed Down.

It is still sitting on our foyer table waiting .. and waiting .. there does not seem to be a rush.

The clock on our crappy stove seems to add a minute or so a week.

My alarm clock by my bedside that I have had for a decade seems to be running out of steam – about 10 minutes behind now.

Who cares?

Who hears that anymore?

Who watches the clock anymore? Who sets an alarm?

We are now living by our body’s internal clocks.

Yes, we do still have responsibilities and set times for certain things but in my life, there is a Relaxation of Pressure.

Is that bad? I don’t think so.

Our lives had moved to the Manic.

Every moment accounted for – don’t get back to a text in 0 seconds? You are ignoring me!

Don’t reply to an email the same day? Holy crap! Bad service.

Ok, here is one of those moments where I acknowledge that I am Old.

When I first started in business, we would get mail (that is paper correspondence for those under 40). The mail would arrive at our office and we had a Mail Clerk who would open everything and put it in a cart and roll it around and distribute to the recipient.

That recipient would read, route to any other relevant person and whoever the final person was, would dictate a response to their ‘secretary’ who would type it up (with a carbon copy for the files) and then send it out as a response – by mail.

Three weeks minimum for a response.

I know I have lost my younger audience with this reference but you must understand that the world was not always as it is now.

And it wasn’t horrible.

It seems very inefficient, but it was so much less stressful. Immediate response was not the expected.

There was Time for Thought.

Bottom line for this Random Thought is that I am not too very sad that the World has slowed somewhat.

Let’s enjoy the time we have without the pressure to think on the spot. To have the time to breathe. To contemplate our responses and how we want to move forward. Not only with business decisions but as to what is important in life.

Are you enjoying more time to yourself? With your family? With your pets?

More time to respond to work demands?

How about we find some good in this Covid 19 Crisis (not negating the horrible parts of it) by Taking Back Our Lives. Our time. Our time with our Family and Friends.

Our time with Ourselves.

Tick Tock ~ who cares.

  1. Totally agree!!! Great to enjoy this special time, press our “reset button”. So wonderful for us all to take in a deep breath and exhale slowly…Time is so very precious!!

    1. I am always trying to find the positive … but I have to say, perhaps I need to take quicker breaths! More exercise? Holy cow.
